Residential
Residential applications can range in flow rates from 0.5 USGPM to 50 USGPM and do not only include private residences.  Drinking water regulations do require UV disinfection equipment to be test and validated depending on the application.  Different geographies will require different UV validation protocols for UV equipment verification.  Some of these protocols that fall under the ‘residential’ category are as NSF 55 Class A, WQA Gold Seal, ETV, DVGW (German protocol) and CSA B483.1. Commercial/Industrial
Commercial/Industrial applications can include a wide variety of markets and flow rates.  Not all these markets fall under the drinking water requirements but they still must comply with specific testing standards.  These markets can include hospitals, campgrounds, hotels and restaurants, as well as processing plants, irrigation applications and recreational applications.  The UV testing protocols can include NSF 55 Class A, NSF 50, ETV and DVGW (German). Municipal
Municipal applications will always fall under the drinking water regulations as they feed water to the public that can be consumed.  These applications can include private community water treatment facilities as well as municipal treatment systems ranging in flow rates from 10 USGPM to 3 BGD (billion gallons per day).  When UV equipment is installed for disinfection it must comply with the accepted validation protocol according to the applicable drinking water regulations.  These protocols include USEPA UVDGM (UV Disinfection Guidance Manual) 2006, DVGW (German), ÖNorm (Austrian) and NSF 55 Class A. Other
This section can include applications that do not involve drinking water however the UV treatment equipment must have proof of performance in order to show that it will be effective.  This can include waste water applications, re-use applications, pharmaceutical uses or irrigation type applications.
